About Us
I’ve grown up on a dairy farm all my life but 2016 was the first year Mystic Meadows Dairy was established. Milking 30 cows a mix of Jerseys, Ayrshires, and red and white Holsteins my mom Denise started her journey operating a dairy of her own. In 2021 the dream of building an on farm creamery was born. That’s where I come it, Kirsten. Looking at the future of our farm, this is the best way to be self sufficient and ensure longevity. By November 2022 we were up and running offering whole milk, chocolate milk, A2 versions of both, along with butter every once in awhile. In July 2023 we expanded further, buying the already established business Backroad Creamery making various types of cheeses. All in all our goal is to provide consumers with quality products, that have been minimally processed. Getting people closer to where their food comes from, as well as offering A2 options to people who really need it is our top priority!
Practices
When this farm started we wanted to keep it small enough that only a couple people could manage the whole thing. Knowing each individual animal, and their personalities makes it easier for us to keep records and make sure they’re healthy/happy.
Our barn was converted from a veal barn to a dairy barn so we have two groups of cows. One group is in a free stall set up that works best for younger cows with stronger personalities. Our second group is a bedded pack that our older and more docile girls excel in. All of our cows and heifers are free to roam as they please and go outside to enjoy the sunshine. In the spring and summer we graze on pastures if the weather permits!
Comfortable, and happy cows make the best milk! That’s why we have such a low bacteria count, and high protein and butterfat counts!
